The main character in the book “The Good soldiers” changes a lot throughout the story by bonding a lot more with the other characters by war. The conflict in this story is George W. Bush, and he is making up an operation to infiltrate the Taliban and stop what they are doing around the world, which is terror. The president calls the operation the surge. It’s designed to find the people causing terror around the world and put a stop to it. Colonel Kalistavh is leading a group of soldiers into Iraq and Afghanistan.
